BushEars

Privacy — the short, honest version

Last updated 16 July 2026 · Mafutai Pty Ltd, South Africa

BushEars is built on a simple promise: it listens for animals, not people. That promise extends to this website. Here's exactly what happens to anything you share with us.

What we collect

Only what you choose to type into our contact form: your name, your email address, who you are (guest, guide, lodge or curious), and your message. Nothing else. We don't track you around the site, and we don't use advertising cookies.

Why we collect it

For one reason: to reply to you. That's it. We don't add you to a mailing list, and we will never sell or share your details with anyone.

Our lawful basis

Your consent, given when you send the form. You're free to change your mind — just ask.

How long we keep it

Only as long as it takes to help you, and a reasonable period after in case you write again. Then we delete it.

Your rights under POPIA

You can ask us what we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it entirely. Get in touch through the contact form and we'll sort it out.

About the app itself

BushEars is being designed to hear wildlife, not conversations: audio is processed on the device in a short rolling buffer, only brief clips are kept when it flags a possible call, clips containing speech are blocked from automatic upload, and nothing is shared to improve the model without explicit permission. BushEars is an interpretation and entertainment amenity — it is never a safety, security, tracking or location system, and the absence of a detection means nothing at all.

Who's responsible

BushEars is a project of Mafutai Pty Ltd, South Africa. Questions about your data? Reach us through the contact form.
